Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a doubleheader against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rival Shippensburg in the team's home and conference opener on Friday. The Huskies won game one, 3-2 and game two, 6-5. The victories improve Bloomsburg's record on the year to 15-5.

In game one, Shippensburg got on the board in the top of the first inning, however, Bloomsburg came back in the bottom half of the inning when Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) scored off a Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) single to knot the game at 1-1. The Huskies would then take control of the game in the third inning when Alyssa English (Wallacetown/Phillipsburg-Osceola) hit a two-run home run that knocked in Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport). The homer gave the Huskies a 3-1 lead. Shippensburg would score a run in the sixth and in the seventh had the tying run on base but Bloomsburg pitcher Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) struck out three batters to end the threat and gave Bloomsburg the win.

In game two, Bloomsburg fell behind 5-0 in the third inning, but gradually chipped away at the Shippensburg lead. In the fifth, the Huskies scored twice. Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) knocked Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) in on a triple and later scored off a Jenn Davis (Center Valley/St .Patricks/St. Vincents ) single that cut the Shippensburg lead to 5-2.

In the sixth, the Huskies added two more runs. First, Krupiewski knocked in English on a triple, then Krupiewski would score on a Bachert single that cut the Shippensburg lead to 5-4.

In the seventh, Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Cebntral Dauphin) reached base after a Shippensburg error, then advanced to second on a Shiko single. After an English groundout advanced both Koch and Shiko, Shippensburg elected to intentionally walk Krupiewski. With two outs and the bases loaded, Rosin stepped to the plate and with the count at one-and-one smacked a double down the left-field line. Koch and Shiko both scored on the play, giving Bloomsburg the come-from-behind 6-5 victory.

The Huskies return to action tomorrow when they visit Kutztown for a double header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
